The Philippine Star’s report on Viagra sales to the U. S. market on May 19 noted that the U. drug giant is on track to reach its full-year revenue expectations by the end of 2012.
“Viagra is on the market for about 20 years, with revenue expected to reach $1 billion by 2015,” said the paper’s headline writer and analyst, Steve Coppion.
The report also noted that Pfizer, the maker of the popular erectile dysfunction drug Viagra, recently became the first American company to list the drug for sale in the U. on March 14.
“Pfizer is planning to launch the drug for the U. market in August, but the launch will be more complicated and less predictable,” Coppion said.
The report, though a little bit different, added that Pfizer’s sales have been rising steadily since 2010 and that it’s been getting a big emphasis on the treatment of erectile dysfunction and its impact on men with low blood pressure and diabetes.
The report also noted that sales of Viagra reached $2.6 billion last year, a decline of more than half a percent compared to $5.6 billion a year earlier.

“There’s a real concern that, based on current medical research, Viagra may not be a good treatment option for all patients with ED,” Coppion said.
“While this is a great drug, it is not the right choice for all patients. It’s a prescription drug,” he added.
“If you’re going to be an old man, you might have to be careful,” he said.
The report added that Viagra is only approved for the treatment of ED when the drug’s ability to help the penis is still very much in the works. As a result, Viagra is only prescribed and dispensed under the supervision of a health care professional.
